About Us Adoption Center How Can I Help Resources

Why should you choose to adopt a dog from Underdog ResQ out of the many animal shelters and rescue organizations in the area? First of all, we have great dogs! Second of all, we promise to try our best to make this an enjoyable process. All applications will be responded to promptly, (within 48 hours). Last but not least, adopting a dog that has been in a foster home allows us to tell you more about them. We are able to see how your new dog will adjust to being in a home environment, whether they are truly housebroken, how they respond to commands, where they like to sleep, their eating habits, their favorite toys, whether or not he is good with strangers that come to the home and much more.

Below are pictures and profiles of our available dogs for adoption. We will do our best to keep this page updated. The dogs that are adopted will graduate and be moved to the success stories page.

Please make sure to read the adoption standards before applying for a dog. Complete that adoption application online or print out the pdf application and mail it.

Robby's Story
My name is Robby and I am a little under 1 year. I have a beautiful gleaming brindle coat and weigh about 50 pounds. Basically, I am just an energetic and happy pup! I may have some Mastiff or even Great Dane in me.

I was found as a stray west of Boston and Animal Control sent me to an animal clinic without an adoption program. Like all strays, particularly bully breeds, my fate was uncertain and questionable. But to make matters worse, an initial behavioral evaluation was not communicated and therefore misinterpreted and I was ordered to be euthanized! Well, somehow that was forgotten the day that it was supposed to happen. Whew! Then a caring and competent advocate at the clinic contacted Underdog ResQ and they came immediately to evaluate me. They found me quite charming and definitely adoptable! Wow, that was a few weeks ago and I am now safely living in a foster home just outside Boston and enjoying affection, positive direction (including “manners” boot camp after my evening walk), good food, long walks, and hikes in the Fells and the White Mountains (NEVER off leash). I am meeting lots of new friends, animal and human alike. Everyone who meets me and hears my story thinks I’ll be scooped up into a forever home really soon! I know how lucky I am so I am making it up by being a good boy.

I was a finicky eater when I came home with my Foster Mom, but she sat on the floor and hand fed me, so taught me that mealtimes mean eating, not grabbing a chew toy. Now I love mealtimes and am gaining some weight. I am being fostered in a working household and I am good in the crate when left alone. And I love chasing the cat for fun, but would never hurt her (I think she likes me) so I can definitely go to a permanent home with a cat (one that is used to dogs) and or a female dog. I do have a propensity to jump, so young children would not be a match for me.

I am just flexible and love new experiences. I do sleep in the bedroom at night, but only because I have earned the right, and have had only one accident in the house. I really get the doing my business outside stuff! I like being bathed and have had my nails trimmed…it’s important to look good when you are up for adoption. I have been neutered and I am up to date on all my shots.
Being a pup, no couch potatoes need apply! I have tons of energy! And my training needs to be on-going. I am a little goofy, and I have a basket full of toys strewn around the house, but if you are looking for an affectionate, attentive, fun loving, eager to have new experiences, energetic, friendly, easy going, ball loving, stick collecting canine partner, PLEASE! I am waiting to hear from you. Did I mention I love balls? All sizes: basketball, tennis, soccer, exercise!

Cassie's Story
See Cassie’s video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvu2ygso3Rw

Cassie is an amazing 6 month old female puppy that came to Underdog ResQ in mid June. Cassie needed a little TLC and has since gained some weight and now romps around like any healthy puppy would! Cassie is very smart and very eager to learn. In the two weeks that she’s been in her foster home she has learned, and does very well with Sit, Down, Stay, Leave it, Drop it, Come, and even Go Potty. She loves to play fetch and seems to have no desire to chew on anything other than her toys. Cassie is crate trained and does extremely well. She sleeps through the night without issue. She is doing well with potty training but has had a few accidents. She hasn’t shown any signs of letting her foster mom know when she needs to go out, so it’ll be up to her owner to know when to take her. She is a puppy, and during her waking hours needs to go out very often. Cassie lives in a house with two small dogs (under 10 pound) and a cat and does great with them. Her permanent home may have a male dog, if any. Cassie loves to go to the park and does very well with other dogs and people. Cassie needs work on walking as biting the leash seems to be more important to her than anything else. She would for sure benefit from a basic obedience class and in fact would probably love it!

Overall Cassie is a big, quiet, love bug that would sit on your lap in a second, roll over to have her belly rubbed and just be a great companion for anyone. Two things that her foster mom loves about this little girl is that she does not give kisses and she very rarely barks!!!

Cassie is located in NH. If you’re interested in getting more information about adopting Cassie, please visit http://www.underdogresq.org/AdoptionCenter/AdoptionProcess.asp.

Age:  2-3 years
Sex:  Male

Jaden's Story
Jaden is a happy, loving, 5 yr. old Boxer Mix. Jaden was found as a stray dog in NYC and is being fostered in NH. He weighs 57 pounds. He is totally house trained and from day one in his foster home has been a well-mannered boy. He is very well behaved and does not get into things he should not get into. He eats well and does not have a problem with putting your hand into the bowl. He gets along well with other dogs and he doesn’t cause any drama with any that he’s met. He is currently in a foster home with a female husky mix and a few cats. He sometimes chases the cats and other times runs away from them, this is all in play. So, a home with a dog-friendly cat would be a great match for him. He makes a good watch dog but don’t count on him being a guard dog. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Overall he would make a wonderful companion and a low maintenance pet especially if you love kisses! His ideal home may have kids over the age of 10 years (he does sometimes jump when he meets new people or gets excited), cats and a female dog.

Jaden is being fostered in NH. My name is Rocky and I am a very small 6 yr old male, staffordshire terrier mix. I am absolutely gorgeous with my brown brindle and black fur :) My owners surrendered me because they were moving and couldn't take me with them :( I'm looking for a forever home!

I am very loveable and affectionate. I enjoy being around people, giving kisses, and getting my belly rubbed. I am extremely loyal and very strong. However, I know my manners and am calm and polite with people, even those I meet on the street. I walk well on the leash and do not pull. I sit for my treats and food, and know the difference between toys and other household things. I enjoy relaxing when in the house, and love taking frequent naps. I am fully house trained, crate trained, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all my vaccinations :)

Although I am good around children and love getting attention from anyone, I'd be best in a home without small children or cats as I don't know my own strength, and play could be too rough with them or knock them over by accident. I am currently being fostered in a home with two adults and a 1-year old dog who loves to play. I will run around with her, but she wants to play too much for me! I just ignore her and walk away, I am never aggressive to her, even when she tries to climb on me. I eat my food next to her and don’t mind when we she gets treats. We also like to go on walks together. I know how to sit and come here and am learning down, stay, drop it, and leave it.

My ideal home would be a house or an apartment with someone who wants a companion to sit with and relax. I can sit for hours on end while you work, read, cook, use the computer, or watch T.V. As long as I am next to you, I am the happiest dog in the world!

Name:  Olive

Olive's Story
OLIVE NEEDS A NEW FOSTER HOME. SHE IS GOING INTO A BOARDING FACILITY ON JULY 30th. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.

We found Olive at an Animal Control shelter that did not have an adoption program. Her destiny was not a good one. Luckily, a great volunteer family came forward to take her in knowing she was about to give birth to some pups. Olive has been in foster care since late March. She has since raised 5 puppies.

Olive is a tiny 30 pound 16 inch tall girl with a big heart for people. She LOVES to snuggle and can usually be found either under her foster mom’s arm or laying at her feet. Olive is also a huge fan of rawhides and other toys. Like most pits she doesn't mind rough handling, a hand in her food bowl, teeth examinations...you could pretty much never make this lady not love you. She is very food motivated making training easy for her. She already knows sit and come but with just becoming a mom training was put on hold for her to spend time with her pups. Olive would love a home with lots of people, but small children she is unfamiliar with so may try to play with them like she would a dog making them not good housemates for her. Another dog would be fine, but we require opposite sex pairing. If you meet Olive it is certain you will fall in love!

 Common misconceptions
 before adopting a dog:
2. I have a back yard so I don't have to walk Rex every day.

Wrong! Being let out in the backyard does not supply Rex with enough exercise. He needs to go on a nice long walk with you (on the leash) where he'll get plenty of exercise and be able to socialize with other dogs and people.

If you can positively answer these questions and concerns, then you may be ready to adopt Rex.
