The success stories are our favorite part. Each dog that is placed on this page lets us know that we are doing our jobs. Each dog that is placed on this page makes room for yet another dog to go into a foster home.

Below are some of the success stories of dogs that have been adopted through Underdog ResQ. We ask each adoption family to keep in touch and send photos of their new companions with their new families.

Name:  Pinky Tuscadero
Breed:  Pit bull
Age:  6 months
Sex:  Female

Pinky Tuscadero's Success Story
Little Pinky Tuscadero was found as a stray and ended up in a shelter without an adoption program. Underdog ResQ took her under its wings in January of 2009 until she found her new loving family in April of 2009. Pinky now lives with a wonderful couple, their new baby and a wonderful male pittie companion.

Here is a note from Pinky's new family (now called Penny):
Penny (AKA Pinky) has been a gre at addition to our family. She loves life and always makes us smile no ma tter what kind of day we are having. Penny and Otis (our 5 year old Pitbu ll) have become best buds and do everything together. Their favorite thin gs are chasing critters in our fenced in back yard and cuddling on the co uch. Since we have adopted Penny our daughter has entered our life. We ha d no fear about Penny and Delaney because her foster-family included trip let-toddlers and a seven year old, whom she was great with.

We’re so glad that we decided to get a second dog, and that it turned out to be Penny. Delaney loves to watch Penny and Otis and can t wait to explore and play with them. We look forward to all the fu n they’re going to have, and the wonderful memories they’ ll make.

Thank you Underdog ResQ for saving and caring for Penny until we found her!

Name:  Dylan
Breed:  Hound Mix
Age:
Sex:  Male

Dylan's Success Story
Dylan, this 2 year old Hound Mix, was found on the streets in January of 2009 before making his way to a shelter without an adoption program. This lucky boy was taken in by Underdog ResQ where he lived in a home while searching for his new family until April of 2009. He was adopted by a loving couple that has nothing but great things to say about their new companion. Here is a note from his new family in the fall of 2009:

Dylan, whom is now aptly named Rudy (after the “underdog” ND football player Rudy) became a part of our family the moment we laid eyes on him. The moment his foster caretakers (Matt and Colin, you guys are the best!) let him into our home he came barreling into our lives with kisses and smiles! Rudy quickly adapted to his new home in Salem and has flourished ever since. He loves going for long walks in the park, playing with his a million and one toys and most importantly, he has become quite the local celebrity in our neighborhood ( It’s not uncommon for us to hear “It’s Rudy!! from the other end of the street when we take him for walks!). Howev er, as evidenced by his membership in two local play groups, his list of fa ns extends beyond his human friends. Rudy has proven time and again that he has a special knack for getting along with even the most rambunctious mutt and a very enduring gift for bringing the most reticent dogs into a state of playfulness. We can never fully explain just how much joy Rudy has brought to our lives and we canno t thank Underdog Resq enough for giving us the opportunity to love this ama zing little guy for the rest of his life!

Name:  Frankie
Breed:  Pit Bull
Age:  5 months
Sex:  Male

Frankie's Success Story
“Frankie,” a 4 month Pitbull, was abandoned on Franklin (hence the name) and Montgomery in Lynn, MA. He was taken in by a loving foster mom in Newton and kept for a month, learning to not chew, simple commands and be a housebroken proper puppy. In May (yes, we’re slow writing this) he was adopted by a family (us) with a 10 yr boy. It’s been 3 months and, wow, did we make the right choice! Every day I hear “I love you Frankie” from my son. Every day he goes for a walk off-leash in the Fells park and plays with other dogs. Every day I hear a nervous “Oh, is he a Pittbull?” followed by “What a sweet dog” from the other owners when he clearly wants to play and not attack. And every day we are complimented on him as we walk through town. He’s been a great ambassador for the breed.

Frankie is quite the chewer though and we are having trouble keeping up with his “addiction.” I hope he’ll outgrow this -- every toy we get is destroyed in a day (even the “kongs”). He’s learning more commands, including “Bang” (fall down dead on your side) which my son loves to do. His favorite sport is tug-of-war (see picture) but we were careful to teach him to let go (“Give”) whenever we want him to stop. He’s a puppy and crawls onto the couch, bed, even the chair to be with us. He’s a total love and we’re grateful we have him. Our experience with Underdog Rescue was perfect—the ad describing him was spot on; no exaggerations in his training, behavior or personality. THANK YOU.

Name:  Teddy
Breed:  Shih Tzu
Age:  5 years
Sex:  Male

Teddy's Success Story
Teddy, a 5 year old blind Shih Tzu came to his foster home as a mess in the middle of winter. His hair was falling out, he was underweight and he had such horrible teeth that 8 of them had to be pulled. Oh, and he was blind too. After 5 weeks, he found his forever home in a suburb of Boston and i s now well loved and taken care of by his new family.

Here is a note from his mom:

Teddy is great, he's very comfortable here, and is always the center of attention wherever he goes. He's an absolute snuggle buddy. I also enjoy rough-housing with him. He'll now jump up to get his braided rope that he l ikes to attack.

He still eats the food you recommended, and at last check, was just und er 11 lbs. The heat, of recent, has really slowed him down. He's been sleepin g until about 8 every morning in the air-conditioned bedroom, and spends much tim e on the couch in front of the fan. I take him to the groomers about every 6 wee ks, and have been keeping him quite short to try to help w/ the heat.

We take him every weekend to our property in NH. I've taken him in the lake a few times to swim. This week I'll pick up a life-jacket for him and hope he 'll be more comfortable in the water. He enjoyed his 11 days on Martha's Vineyard. I bought him a pet stroller on Craigslist, so he went everywhere we went.

He definitely was meant to come home to us. Whatever his journey was, he was meant to find us!!! Thank you for all you and Underdog ResQ did for him.

Name:  Bean
Breed:  Beagle
Age:  1 year
Sex:  Female

Bean's Success Story
Bean began her stint as a foster dog on July 25th. The Underdog volunteer who delivered her asked "are you ready to fall in love?" before opening the car door and letting Bean out. Bean is an adorable 1-year-old female beagle. She is energetic, sweet and cuddly. She loves company and often "tap dances" when she sees familiar faces approaching her. During her time as a foster, Bean enjoyed the company of rescue dogs Wiggy and Oscar, making frequent trips to a great dog park. Her adorable face attracte d her forever parents quite quickly, and she was adopted in mid-August. The folks at her new home report that she is doing well. She shares this new home in beautiful Cheshire, MA with two caring and responsible adults and two other beagles.

 Common misconceptions
 before adopting a dog:
1. We’re getting Rex for the kids - they will do all the work.

Maybe for the first week or so, but most kids will slack off soon enough and the responsibility will fall on your laps. You are considered to be the owner because you are over the age of 21. If your kids do not walk Rex, then it is up to you that it gets done. As much as we talk to our kids about responsibility and as much as they agree to care for your new dog, we all know that sooner or later most kids will lose interest or get tired.

If you can positively answer these questions and concerns, then you may be ready to adopt Rex.
