The success stories are our favorite part. Each dog that is placed on this page lets us know that we are doing our jobs. Each dog that is placed on this page makes room for yet another dog to go into a foster home.

Below are some of the success stories of dogs that have been adopted through Underdog ResQ. We ask each adoption family to keep in touch and send photos of their new companions with their new families.

Name:  Cora
Breed:  pit bull mix
Age:  Est. DOB 5/11/11
Sex:  Female

Cora's Success Story
Cora was born with 7 other brothers and sisters in May of 2011 into a city shelter. Underdog ResQ stepped in to help by putting all 7 puppies into secure and loving foster homes. She thrived in her foster home, but really needed a home of her very own to grow up into the confident and sweet dog she is today.

Cora found her home in an awesome family who loves her a great deal and continues to teach her to be an ambassador of her breed. She shares her life with two adorable twin human sisters who teach her patience and love.

Here is a recent picture and a note from her family.

Just thought I would send another picture your way and let you know that

Cora is doing wonderful. We love her so much. She is so loving and

caring. She and the girls are best friends. She loves to snuggle and

she enjoys going on 3.5 mile walks with Jason every day. She is very

active and loves her daily schedule. Hope all is well! Take care.

Name:  Bruno
Breed:  Pit Bull Mix
Age:  Est. DOB 5/11/11
Sex:  Male

Bruno's Success Story
Bruno is one of 8 pit bulls from a litter that Underdog ResQ admitted to help get them out of a cage and into a home. He was adopted 3 months later at the age of 5 months. Bruno is very friendly and well socialized with people, kids, and other animals, such as dogs and cats. He loves to play and is very well trained. His new home, as of 9/30/11, is with a lovely young couple, whom have recently purchased their first home. They have a wonderful home with a nice big yard, beautiful deck, and easy access to the park areas. Each of his new owners has previously owned dogs and is very dedicated to their new addition, Bruno. Like most true pet lovers, Bruno has become one of the family in this case. His success in finding a good home will always be remembered

Name:  Finn
Breed:  Pit bull
Age:  5-6 months (on 5/31/11)
Sex:  Male

Finn's Success Story
At the age of 5 months Finn was found as a stray dog that had been hit by a car. As a result, one of his front legs needed to be amputated. He maintained his laid-back and loving personality and it only took about a month to find him a forever home in July of 2011. In October of 2011 we received a great update from his new owner:

I've been meaning to write you for a while to let you know how Finn is doing. He's a happy puppy over 50lbs now! I take him to a dog park in Sharon each weekend and I have some friends with dogs and he gets along very well with them.

He spent a lot of his summer playing in the yard and hanging out in his pool :) He's doing pretty well adjusting to my work schedule. And with the cooler weather he's the best heater at night! :)

Attached are a couple of pictures. Thank you for all you did for Finn and me.

Name:  Boka
Breed:  Bichon or Bichon Mix
Age:  6 years
Sex:  Male

Boka's Success Story
Boka was a hearty Bichon that was handed over to a shelter when his owners could no longer care for him at the age of 6 years to a shelter without an adoption program. Underdog ResQ took him under its wings. He had a number of medical and behavior challenges, food allergies and hearing loss being the big ones. Not having much of a history on him, his foster Mom worked quite closely with him to try and figure out the best way to deal and/or treat Boka’s challenges.

Feeling like it was going to be a long road with Boka, knowing that it would take a very special person/persons to adopt Boka and understand his challenges… we took it one day at a time. BUT, it was only a short couple months before Tracy and Spencer stepped in and contacted Underdog ResQ regarding Boka. It was obvious from the moment Tracy and Spencer met Boka that they were going to be the perfect match for each other! Tracy and Spencer have gone above and beyond to work with Boka in trying to teach him signs for commands and getting his food allergies all under control. Boka is an only dog in his new home and lives with no children, therefore gets 100% of the attention of his new parents. Boka is extremely happy to be where he is and is very lucky to have the parents he does!!!

A few words from Tracy and Spence:

I guess I can start by saying THANK YOU for bringing him to us. He is just the best dog in the world and we love him so much. Spence has been working hard on training him with signs, and Boka has already learned "sit", "down", "stay", "off" and "heel". We are still working on "toilet" and "leave it". I really think this is the first time he has been able to communicate with his family, and he is loving it. That's why he is such a good student….Everyone who meets us says how lucky Boka is to have parents like Spence and I that are willing to work with him, his allergies, etc. But as you know, we are really the lucky ones, because Boka has so much love to give, and he just lavishes it on us every day.

It’s stories like this that make saving dogs so well worth it!!! As a foster Mom for Underdog ResQ, Boka’s foster mom says she is so happy to have taken part in Boka’s rescue, it gives the power and determination we all need to save each and every “underdog” we come across!

Name:  Chica
Breed:  Chihuahua
Age:  senior
Sex:  Female

Chica's Success Story
Here is Chica’s adoption story told by her new owner, now an Underdog ResQ volunteer:
We are a couple who was interested in getting a dog but could not decide what dog to get, as I wanted a small dog, and John wanted a dog he could play with, and thus wanted a big dog. After looking through profiles of dogs available for adoption, I found Chica.

Underdog ResQ had rescued Chica from a shelter which had identified her as a senior dog. Underdog ResQ had done a great job writing a detailed description of Chica's personality and had even put up a video of her playing. After reading how Chica loved to play the "hand game" and seeing the video of Chica playing, John was sold, even though Chica weighs less than 10 pounds. We contacted Underdog ResQ and I couldn't believe how quickly they responded!

When we met Chica she ran right up to me and started licking my face. I think she knew she had found her forever home. Her foster mom warned us that Chica might bark the first few days when we left her alone because that's what she had done in her foster mom's home. But, our neighbors told us there was no barking at all. She settled right in.

Chica has become my shadow and follows me everywhere. And, it is amazing how spunky she is for a small, "senior" dog. She loves wrestling with John and will actually get so excited that he has to tell her to calm down. Then, when they are done wrestling, he scoops her into his arms and she kisses him all over his face.

We think she had pups sometime in the past because she tries to mother our two dwarf hamsters. She sits, staring at the cage for hours. And, when we hold them, she alternates between giving them kisses and giving us kisses.

John tends to get home every day earlier than I do and Chica ensures that he is never late to pick me up from work. Every day, about a half hour before it is time for him to come get me, Chica will get all excited and try to lead him to the door. When she finally sees me, she always jumps several feet into the air while wagging her entire backside and squealing with excitement.

Everywhere we go, people love her. She definitely shows her Chihuahua roots though, because she tends to ignore people other than us. We couldn't be happier that Chica is part of our family! Thank you Underdog ResQ for bringing us together!

 Common misconceptions
 before adopting a dog:
1. We’re getting Rex for the kids - they will do all the work.

Maybe for the first week or so, but most kids will slack off soon enough and the responsibility will fall on your laps. You are considered to be the owner because you are over the age of 21. If your kids do not walk Rex, then it is up to you that it gets done. As much as we talk to our kids about responsibility and as much as they agree to care for your new dog, we all know that sooner or later most kids will lose interest or get tired.

If you can positively answer these questions and concerns, then you may be ready to adopt Rex.
