Underdog ResQ is an equal opportunity dog rescue that saves good dogs from bad situations regardless of breed and age.

Please note that Underdog ResQ does not have a brick and mortar facility. Underdogs are cared for by foster parents that volunteer their time. Underdog ResQ is an all-volunteer operated organization.

What makes Underdog ResQ special?

• Underdog ResQ rescues local dogs.  Local to us means most of the northeast - New England and Tri States.  We do rescue dogs from South Carolina but those dogs are being fostered by South Carolina residents. 
• Underdog ResQ takes pride in offering great customer service.  We make it a point to respond to each application and email within 48 hours.
• Underdog ResQ is an all breed dog rescue which is not too common.  We judge the temperament and not the breed or age and admit good dogs if we have a foster home match.
• Underdog ResQ provides lots of support and guidance to its foster parents.  Each foster parent, in addition to having the support of the volunteer coordinator, has a buddy matched up with them with each foster dog they get. 
• Underdog ResQ has a variety of talented volunteers on its team!
• Underdog ResQ is active in the animal welfare community.

About the Underdogs

Like our tag line says, Underdog ResQ is an equal opportunity dog rescue.  As long as we have a foster home that matches a dog’s needs and vice versa, we will take them under our wings until they are placed with a permanent loving and caring family.  We proudly say that Underdog saves the most misunderstood breed, the pit bull, in addition to special needs and geriatric dogs.  

Underdog admits dogs from shelters.  We will review owner relinquishment situations on a case by case basis only.

The Shelters We Assist

Our priority is to help dogs in high kill shelters, as well as animal control agencies and animal hospitals without adoption programs.  Dogs in these types of shelters are in the most danger of being euthanized. Not because those facilities don’t care; rather because there are just so many dogs that are being thrown away.  These shelters have limited resources and rely on organizations like Underdog.  We’ll also provide assistance to humane societies that have limited resources or just have a tough time placing certain dogs for one reason or another.  Also admitted from humane societies are the dogs that become extremely depressed or stir crazy in a shelter atmosphere.  Dogs react to shelter life in a variety of ways – some adjust well, some show their fear in aggressive ways, some get so depressed that they don’t want to eat, play, socialize, or do anything, while others become less adoptable due to lack of exercise and enrichment.  The average animal shelter is short-staffed and has a small budget, especially in this current economic climate.

Underdog Care

Each dog gets proper veterinary care, training and a temporary family to keep him safe.  Foster parents provide companionship, customized care, training, and exercise – everything that contributes to the dog’s mental well-being and behavior. Underdog provides customized healthcare, including basic vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm tests, heartworm prevention and whatever else the dog needs to get him ready for a brand new healthy future.  Underdog also provides high quality support and education to its foster volunteer families.  Together we create a happy, social, healthy, obedient and adoptable dog.

Financial Support

Underdog relies on the kindness of others - donations from individuals like you.  As the organization grows and continues to admit more dogs annually, veterinary bills also grow.  In most cases, the adoption fee doesn’t even cover the expense of spays or neuters, only part of the veterinary care provided for every underdog.  Experience shows the average dog that ends up in a shelter requires more than basic vet care.  Many require expensive procedures like dentals, ear treatment, blood work and much more.  This isn’t a surprise considering most shelter dogs have been abandoned, given up due to financial reasons or thrown away like a piece of property.

Underdog’s Vision

Now that Underdog ResQ has the rescue part mastered, the next step will be to focus on prevention in the near future.  Underdog, with the proper financial support, wishes to develop and implement an education program to help prevent homelessness, cruelty and neglect.    In addition to that, Underdog ResQ would also like to operate its very own shelter so that we can save even more dogs!

Without foster homes, Underdog ResQ would not be able to accomplish its mission. Without donations, Underdog ResQ would not be able to operate. Without volunteers, Underdog ResQ would not exist.
